Kidsfest 2013 and Superhero RaceThis and other blogs can be found on my websites:  Michael “Doc” Davis – www.MichaelDocDavis.com or www.ComedianDoc.com

Kids, costumes, racing, talent show, families, event supporters, food, games, fun and much more at Simon Park in Conway Arkansas!  What an amazing turnout!  The Children’s Advocacy Alliance (www.HopeAndJustice.org) did an amazing job putting this event together.

After the Superhero race was all over, it was time for the talent show, games, food, and more.  My co-host Jennifer Trafford from KSSN 96 (www.KSSN96.com) and I (Michael “Doc” Davis) from Doc’s Group Therapy Comedy Podcast (www.DocsGroupTherapy.com) took the stage to kick off the festivities.  BACA (www.BACAUSA.com) rode in on Harleys carrying the “Missing Child” flag as a somber reminder of child victims from abuse and neglect.  This was a VERY touching moment indeed and makes you just want to hug every child you see and keep them safe!  Judge H.G. Foster then read the proclamation that was earlier signed by Faulkner County Judge Allen Dodson.

Now it was time for the awards ceremony with the following results from all of the racers:

Christian Thompson was the overall winner!!!

  • 5K Youth Boys – 1st Place John Sulton, 2nd Place Beau Berry, 3rd Place Turner Aultman
  • 5K Youth Girls – 1st Place Anna Brockman, 2nd Place Lauren Brockman, 3rd Place Abby Oudekerk
  • 5K Men – 1st Place Christian Thompson, 2nd Place Charles Clawson, 3rd Place Conrad Shirar
  • 5K Women – 1st Place Megan Sherwood, 2nd Place Carla Brockman, 3rd Place Christina Thompson
  • 1K Kids Boys – 1st Place #273, 2nd Place #285, 3rd Place #242
  • 1K Kids Girls – 1st Place #222, 2nd Place #281, 3rd Place #269

Then we got to see the awesome costumes that the kiddos got dressed up in that ranged from Peace Girl Superhero to the more familiar Batman and Superman.  The kiddos glowed as they took the stage with capes that were blowing in the wind.  A smile of a child will always melt your heart unless it’s because they just told you that they put a peanut butter sandwich in the DVD player.  Anyway, after the parade, we interviewed each of the kiddos for them to tell us who they were and their super power.  They smiled and some even tried to show us how they could fly.  Thank God they didn’t jump!  We then announced the winners and they took their photo ops of best girls, boys, and families.  It was a blast sharing the stage with ALL them.

Talent time!!!  There was everything from dancing and baton twirling to music and singing and it was all with the occasional train blowing a horn and they were all AMAZING!  The talent included: Ellen Smith Elementary Tiger Tones Performance, Central Arkansas Baton Twirlers, The Sonshine Academy, and Blackbird Academy of Arts.  All of these kids did such an amazing job and I could only hope that kids with not such great opportunities that are in foster / court system care find this happiness too.

It’s up to ALL of us to help children get out of situations of abuse and neglect.  We as a community have to fight by volunteering, donating time or money, and spreading the word about The Children’s Advocacy Alliance (www.HopeAndJustice.org).  They and We can make a difference.

As always, it was a true honor to be selected and asked to be part of such a great cause and event!  A big thank you to CASA 20th and Children’s Advocacy Alliance.

I wanted to thank Christina Sheets for the amazing photos and also Kaylea Sheets as the Hot Dog runner and for just being so darn cute!  I also wanted to thank my friend Elly Holder for the awesome balloon work that made bunches of kiddos smile and smile and smile!!!
